Rock Climbing in Greece: Tips to plan a trip by ourself

Greece is one of the finest places for a rock climbing holiday! There is lot of information available online, but in this article, I want to focus particularly and tips.

 Quick glance at the Crags in Greece:

Meteora:

It is just spectacular. Most of the bolted routes are kind of run-out. It has great limestone, good multi-pitch routes and monasteries at the top. Beautiful views throughout the valley.

Kalymnos;

Its island, most famous spot for climbing. Depending on when you’re planning on going, it might be a bit trickier to get to depending if ferries running etc. Do a lot of research before reaching here. All route info for this is available online and in guidebooks. The on-season is generally April-October and restaurants and such will likely be open then. There’s a great multi-pitch climb which is on top of every climber’s to do list.

Leonidi:

Its on mainland. One of the most highly recommended crags. There’s single pitch and multi pitch and so many crags with moderate but long climbs too. It’s by the ocean and beautiful. Leonidio is  truly amazing. It has climbing of really good grade spread and smany crags. Everything from 5s to 9s. Its a lovely town and there are incredible places nearby to visit on rest days. Local store owners are so nice and friendly.

ProTip:

“There’s a climber owned and operated coffee shop there where many of the climbers in town come together in the morning and make friends. I made so many friends/climbing partners from different parts of the world at that coffee shop.” Lena Marie
